How to Measure for a Dress

General Tips:

  1. Stand upright and relaxed.
  2. Use a soft measuring tape that can wrap easily around your body.
  3. Don’t pull the tape too tight or have it too loose. It should sit snugly on your skin.
  4. Measure over bare skin or close-fitting clothes for the best accuracy.
  5. If possible, have someone else measure you.

Measurements:

  1. Bust:

    • Wear a well-fitting bra without padding.
    • Stand naturally with your heels together.
    • Place the tape around the fullest part of your bust, ensuring it's parallel with the floor.
    • Keep your arms relaxed at your sides.
  2. Waist:

    • Stand naturally and locate your natural waistline. This is typically the narrowest part of your waist, about an inch above your navel.
    • Measure around this point, ensuring the tape is comfortably snug but not tight.
  3. Hips:

    • Stand with your heels together.
    • Measure around the widest part of your hips, ensuring the tape is over the fullest part of your buttocks. This is typically where your hip bone meets the top of your leg.
    • Ensure the tape is parallel to the floor.
  4. Hollow to Hem (for dress length):

    • Stand straight with feet flat on the floor.
    • Wearing the same height shoe you'll wear with the dress, measure from the center of your collarbone (hollow) straight down to where you want the hem of the dress to end.
  5. Height (with shoes):

    • Stand straight with your feet together.
    • Begin at the top of your head and pull the tape straight down to the floor, wearing the same height shoes you'll wear with the dress.
  6. Shoulder to Waist:

    • Measure from the top of your shoulder, down over the fullest part of your bust, to your natural waistline.
  7. Armhole:

    • Lift your arm slightly and measure around your shoulder down to about an inch below your armpit.

When ordering a dress, it's crucial to provide accurate measurements. It's always a good idea to double-check each measurement before finalizing your order. If you're between sizes, consider going a size up – it's easier to adjust a dress that's slightly too big than one that's too small!
